Summer in Morzine-Avoriaz

When the snow melts, the ski boots are packed away and the last chairlift closes in May, it’s not just the mountain flowers that start to bloom, it’s the locals too. Everyone absolutely loves summer here… we love winter too, but summer in the French Alps is something really special. Mountain bikers, walkers and families have all come to regard Morzine as their special piece of summer paradise.

Families and children

Having attained the national tourist label ‘family plus’, Morzine in summer really does meet all the critieria to ensure a really enjoyable summer family activity holiday. It is a fabulous destination for families with children’s summer activities being varied and plentiful. With the Multi Pass scheme, the outdoor swimming pool complex really does take centre stage.

Three lakes

In addition to the swimming pools, we also have Lake Montriond, the 3rd largest lake in the area. Adults and older children can swim in the main lake which is popular with triathletes too for training purposes. The children have a small special lake to swim in, which is supervised by a lifeguard in the summer months. In Les Gets there is also a lake you can swim in, with outdoor playground areas for the children. The ‘Gold Mine’ lake up in the mountains, however, is just to admire, stroll around or fish in.

In addition to the fabulous pool complex, Morzine boasts a riding centre, two golf courses, a summer sledge, large indoor ice-rink, high rope adventure courses, crazy golf, Lake Montriond for swimming, canoeing and kayaking and of course a huge network of cable cars and chairlifts for walkers and mountain bikers.

Walking

The walking and hiking in Morzine-Avoriaz is simply stunning. The wild flowers, wild animals and the panoramic alpine scenery is just breathtaking. From easy beginner rambles to challenging peaks, there is something for everyone in Morzine. With the Multi Pass, ramblers and hikers have access to over 850km of walks and trails for just one Euro per day!

Mountain biking

Morzine has become one of the most renowned resorts, if not the resort in Europe for mountain biking. In Morzine itself, there is a real MTB buzz, with all the necessary services, specialist bike shops and great ‘après MTB’! Morzine, home to its own World Class downhill trails, acts as the centre for accessing the MTB trails of Les Gets, Avoriaz, Chatel, and the Swiss resorts of Champery and Morgins. All these MTB centres are within easy reach of each other which makes Morzine a perfect mountain bike holiday destination in the French Alps.

Pass’Portes du Soleil

This annual MTB event caters for elite level cyclists through to pedestrians and children. Refreshments in the form of local specialities are provided along the way. Morzine bikers can complete the circuit in a day or over a weekend, with massive descents, traverses, and even a little hill climbing, all sure to provide a great Morzine MTB experience.

Road cyclists

Morzine has a deserved reputation for excellence when it comes to road cycling holidays in the French Alps. It is part of the legendary Portes du Soleil area and is perfectly positioned for road cyclists who want to tackle some of the region’s most iconic hill climbs.

Criterium du Dauphine

One of the main bike races that the Tour de France hopefuls participate in just before the start of the tour. This often takes place in Morzine around June time.
