There are so many things to do in Morzine and the surrounding Alps that the only problem you have is deciding which activity to do and when. There are endless sporting activities that you can do as a family, but here are a few Chalet Morzine suggestions of how best to spend a few precious hours together with the children.
With the fantastic Multi Pass, you don’t have to think twice about jumping on a cable car. Chairlift rides and cable car rides please the kids no end. It’s fun, it’s cheap and you get absolutely magnificent views of the area in the wonderful fresh air. In addition to the walks suggested on our walking holidays page, the chairlifts and cable cars at the Pleney, Mont Chery and Les Gets provide stunning mountain panoramas and with most having restaurants or picnic areas at the top, it’s a great, fun, hassle free few hours for everyone.
Morzine is well positioned for beginner mountain biking with specifically marked ‘Green’ XC Routes and purpose built beginners downhill trails. Once the lift system has carried you up and away onto to the top of the mountain, you’ll soon realise that you can fully appreciate the mountain as a family on a beginner/gentler trail without hurtling yourself down the more difficult downhill tracks. We highly recommend hiring a guide to make sure you see the best spots and always remain within the level for your family. The views are fantastic and a great way to do a sporting activity altogether with the children.
The 3rd largest lake in the region after Lake Geneva and Lake Annecy. A stunning area that has a beautiful circuit walk of approximately 5km, fine for all terrain pushchairs. There is a boating area, where you can take out a kayak or canoe and explore the lake that way. The children could also go pony riding around the lake, walk further up to the Ardent Waterfall or have a go on the 4×4 cars. There are beautiful grassy verges for picnics and two lovely restaurants too if you fancy just relaxing on a terrace and drinking in the spectacular views from this magnificent lake.
The Dereches Park around the meandering River Dranse is really a fantastic area for all the family and is just by the sports hall below the village centre. It can be either a beautiful walk or a family bike ride as it’s flat with no hills. It’s actually a fitness circuit with numerous bridges over the river to make it as short or as long as you like with lots of training spots for the kids to jump and do exercises.
Riding centre: There is a great riding centre here, so as a family you could go out on the horses with an instructor to experience the park and beyond from this angle or take out a pony for the children and wander around this way.
High ropes Indiana Park: An acrobatic aerial adventure in the trees, with rope bridges, zip wires and rope ladders. There is a brilliant small circuit for the little ones from 2 years old where they are harnessed in and you take them round. On the older circuit there are 4 levels of difficulty, blue, red, black and long zipwires. A great adrenalin activity to suit the ages of all the family. Discounted with the Multi Pass when you book in advance.
Children’s outdoor play area and farm: There is a great outdoor play area where the children can enjoy themselves and in the summer months there is the small farm which is free to visit.
Here you can fish, play on the swings and slides or just take in the views. Walk up a bit further on the mountain and you come to ‘Les Freterolles’. This is a small working farm with its own restaurant. A very popular spot with the locals, so if you want to eat there, book in advance!
A beautiful drive over the Col de Joux Plane passing by the lake of Joux Plane (a great picnic stop and walking area too) where the views of Mont Blanc are absolutely spectacular, brings you to the beautiful village of Samoens. Samoens is a traditional village with boutique shops, a lovely village square and a huge lake and park area. A short drive further along brings you to the national park of ‘Sixt Fer à Cheval’. Here you can do a flat circuit walk (1 hour 30 minutes) through this spectacular mountain park, ideal for pushchairs and children.

“This is our family’s favourite day out. The girls and Thierry love the slides, but I just adore the views from this part of Lake Geneva”
A brilliant indoor and outdoor aqua park with a huge variety of slides, from gentle toboggans, to the Booster Loop, Devil’s Fall and Morgan’s Thrill. Swimming pools with wave machine, a spa centre with 6 different styles of sauna and hamman and a huge outdoor area with additional slides for the kids. A really brilliant day out, a good one to do on a rainy day, with its location on Lake Geneva being worth the trip alone. For further details, please visit the Aqua Parc website.

A very famous Alpine town, renowned for serious mountaineers and of course the Mont Blanc. Standing majestic at 4,810 metres, the highest peak in the Alps and Western Europe, it ranks 3rd amongst the world’s most visited sites. You can take the cable car ‘L’Aiguille du Midi’ up to the viewpoint and take in the amazing close up view of the awe-inspiring Mont Blanc. On a combined ticket you could then take the small cog railway train up to the glacier ‘La Mer de Glace’ and admire the views, wander around the museum at the top and take the steps to get up close to one of the most famous European glaciers. For further details, please visit the Chamonix valley and Mont Blanc website.

Just before you get to Chamonix, there is a mini natural safari park in Les Houches. The ‘safari’ part of it being that there are lots of mountain animals and numerous varieties of deer wandering around freely. This means you can get up close to the animals, but stay to the main paths. Another good afternoon out for the family. For further details, please visit the Parc de Merlet website.
For further information on any of the above days out (and there are plenty more) please do not hesitate to contact Lindsey to chat through them. Chalet Morzine is very happy to help plan your family summer holiday itinerary in advance.
